Sugar-Sweetened Beverage Taxes: Did Mexico's 2014 Soda Tax Actually Reduce Consumption Among Low-Income Groups?

Abstract

This thesis evaluates the distributional impact of Mexico's pioneering soda tax using household consumption survey data from 2012–2018. It assesses whether the policy achieved its public health goals equitably, or whether it disproportionately burdened lower-income households without meaningful behavior change.
