Sleep Deprivation as a Public Health Crisis: Correlating Shift Work Policies with Chronic Disease Rates in Nurses

Abstract

Drawing on hospital HR records and health outcome data from three regional hospitals, this thesis investigates whether nurses on rotating night shifts show significantly higher rates of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and depression than those on fixed schedules, and recommends scheduling policy reforms.
